Review the temperature and timer settings of your heating and air conditioning equipment. Turn down the building's heating thermostat especially when the building is not occupied. To avoid the need for personal heaters or fans ensure your building's equipment is well maintained and the temperature is to the satisfaction of all your employees. Remember if you reduce the thermostat by 1° you can save up to 10% off your heating bill. Turn off heating and air conditioning equipment in areas that are not occupied.

Check the insulation of your building to prevent heat loss and add more insulation if needed. If you are undertaking maintenance work, you should replace insulation once this work is completed. Identify and seal off unused areas of your building and don't heat or cool these places. Turn off heating and air conditioning in storage areas. Keep exterior doors and windows closed when the heating or air conditioning is on. Internal doors should be kept closed between areas set at different temperatures.

Heat your water to the correct temperature: Hot water tanks should be fitted with a thermostat to ensure that the water is not heated more than necessary. The hot water temperature should be checked to ensure that it is maintained above 55 degrees and below 65 degrees to minimise energy use.+ Maintain your hot water system: Hot water systems should be inspected to ensure that there is no build up of scale or air in the system. Don't allow radiators and heaters to be blocked by furniture.
