How do I become a natural gas business customer?

What tariffs apply to business customers?

Business customers are automatically allocated to the appropriate tariff depending on Annual Quantity (annual gas usage levels) and Supply Point Capacity (peak day usage). Below is the list of tariffs available.

Small Business User Tariff

This tariff is applicable to business customers who consume less than 73,000 kWh and have a supply point capacity of less than 3,750 kWh.

This tariff consists of two elements:

  • A gas commodity charge for the gas consumed.
  • A standing charge.

 

Medium Business User Tariff

This tariff is applicable to all business customers who consume more than 73,000 kWh and have a supply point capacity of less than 3,750 kWh.

This tariff consists of three elements:

  • A gas commodity charge for the gas consumed.
  • A standing charge.
  • A capacity charge to contribute towards transmission and distribution costs.

 

Fuel Variation Tariff (FVT)

This tariff is applicable to all business customers who consume more than 73,000 kWh and have a supply point capacity of more than 3,750 kWh.

This tariff consists of four elements:

  • A gas commodity charge (cent per kWh). Customers may choose to either fix their prices or allow the price to vary. With the fixed price contract option you may fix predetermined monthly prices for natural gas usage for up to twelve months. There is a two day booking calendar window each month. With the monthly floating price option, prices are set on the average of the last five trading days of the previous months Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) index for natural gas.
  • A fixed charge. This charge reflects the cost for the maintenance of the natural gas network.
  • A site charge (€ per annum). Otherwise known as transport capacity and own supply-cost charge. This charge consists of networks related supply point capacity charges, and is based on your maximum daily amount of gas required at an individual meter. The cost is calculated per day and is charged for the number of days within the billing period.
  • A shrinkage gas charge (cent per kWh). This charge reflects the monthly unit cost of gas absorbed within the network during transportation. The rate will vary month on month, however, it will be common to all FVT customers and equates to approximately 1% of your annual gas costs. Shrinkage will be charged at the most up-to-date shrinkage price at time of billing.

Bulk Gas Users

Bulk gas customers are those using in excess of 9,000,000 therms (263 GWh's) per annum.

CHP

Also referred to as Gas Fired Generation customers they have the ability to generate their electricity requirements for their site and export it to the national grid.
