Managing Your Account Online

Why should I register for online account management?

Registering for online account management provides you with control of your Bord Gáis Energy electricity account. Once registered, the following features are among those available to you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week;

  • Viewing bills and transactions - Online account management allows you to view the last 14 months of bills. As well as viewing bills online we also provide the option to download, save and print a pdf version. You can also view all payments that have been made since your last bill was issued, providing you with greater management of your bills and expenses.
  • Paying bills - You can securely pay your bill online with a Visa, MasterCard, Laser or Visa Debit Card at a time that is convenient to you.
  • View the date of your next bill - Your online account provides you with an estimated date you can expect your next bill, helping you manage your bills and expenses.
  • Paperless billing - With paperless billing you will receive an email when your bill is available to view online. You also have the knowledge you are contributing to a better environment and reduce the amount of paper in your post box!
  • Direct Debit - You can sign up for Direct Debit through your online account, taking the hassle out of paying your electricity bill every two months.
  • Add multiple accounts - If you have a number of electricity accounts, you can have access them in the one place through a single login.

How do I register for online account management?

Registering for online account management is quick and easy. Once you have the following details you can register here.

  • Name on your bill - Make sure to enter the name of the electricity account holder exactly as it appears on your bill (this includes all spaces, full stops, commas etc.) If there are two names and addresses on your bill please register with the name on the right, this is the name and address to which the electricity is supplied.
  • An email address - Your login details will be sent to this email address and it will be used for all electronic communication.
  • Mobile phone number
  • Account Number - This is located on the top right hand corner of your bill in the yellow box. It is ten characters long. If it begins with zero please ensure you include this when entering your account number.

When the registration is complete, you will receive a confirmation email. Within 24 hours of registering you will receive another email with your login details so you can access your new Bord Gáis Energy online account.


I am unable to register – what can I do?

If you are unable to register your account, please review all the information inputted on the registration form making sure the account number and account name are exactly as they are on your bill.

If you have reviewed these and still cannot register, please email helpme@bordgais.ie quoting your account number, account name and MPRN and we will help you register your account.


How do I pay my bills online?

Paying your bills through your online account is a convenient and secure payment method. Once you login to your online account, select 'Pay Bill' from the menu on the left hand side.

  • Enter the payment amount you wish to make and press submit. You will now be redirected to Realex Payments, who operate a secure payment service on behalf of Bord Gáis Energy.
  • You can pay online using a Visa, MasterCard, Laser or Visa Debit Card. Complete all the payment details and be patient while this secure connection loads in your browser. You will receive confirmation on-screen to let you know your payment has been successful.

Please note that payments will take three working days to process. If you encounter any problems when paying your bill, please email helpme@bordGais.ie quoting your account number, account name and MPRN available.


How does paperless billing work?

If you turn on paperless billing, we will no longer send your bill in the post. Instead of sending you a paper bill we will send you an email notification to let you know that your bill is available to view online. You can download, save and print it if required.


Can I manage multiple accounts with paperless billing?

Yes you can manage multiple accounts with paperless billing. If you have multiple accounts you can select the relevant account from the 'Choose Account' section and then select 'Paperless Billing' from the menu. You can turn paperless billing on for one account and off for another account depending on your preferences.


Are my payment options the same if I am receiving paperless billing?

Your payment options stay the same. You will still have all our great payment options when you choose paperless billing, including Direct Debit and online payment - it's up to you.

Can I access my gas and electricity accounts through one online account?

Unfortunately we don't currently provide dual-fuel logins to access your gas and electricity in one online account. However it is a solution we are hoping to implement in the future.


How does online Direct Debit work?

Once you sign up for Direct Debit, your payment is deducted from your bank account approximately 14 days after your bill is issued.

To sign up for Direct Debit online, login to your online account and select 'Online Direct Debit' from the menu on the left hand side and complete all the relevant fields. Once you're signed up your total bill amount is debited directly from your bank account, so you don't have to worry about paying on time.

Can I update my details online?

Yes you can update your email and phone number online by logging into your online account and selecting 'Edit User Details' from the menu on the left hand side.

If you need to change any other details such as the name on your account or the supply address, please contact our customer care team on 1850 632 632 quoting your account number, account name and MPRN.


Are my online details secure?

Yes, all your personal details will be securely held within your online account.

We use secure-server software which encrypts all your personal information, including your bank account details or Credit/Laser card number depending on which payment channel you use.

The encryption process takes the characters you enter and converts them into bits of code that are then securely transmitted over the internet. This encryption process uses SSL (secure sockets layer), which is an industry standard encryption protocol.
