What tariffs are available to me?

Our tariffs are designed to be customer focused, transparent and cost reflective. Residential customers with an annual consumption of less than 73,000 kWh per annum have a choice of the following three tariffs.

Standard Tariff

The Standard Tariff consists of two elements. There is a standing charge of €82.89 (€73.03 excluding VAT) per annum. There is a single unit rate of 5.432 cent (4.786 cent excluding VAT) per kWh of gas used.

No Standing Charge Tariff

This tariff is designed for customers who prefer not to pay a standing charge. Instead of a standing charge, there are two tiers of unit rates for gas usage. The unit rates are 8.321 cent (7.331 cent excluding VAT) per kWh for the first 2,870 units of gas used, and 5.432 cent (4.786 cent excluding VAT) per kWh thereafter.

Winter Saver Tariff

With this tariff you will be charged a standing charge of €255.31 (€224.94 excluding VAT) per annum. This entitles you to 3,174 bundled units allocated over the winter period at no extra charge. This helps to even out the costs of your gas usage during the year, helping with the larger bills during the winter months. There is also a single unit rate of 5.432 cent (4.786 cent excluding VAT) per kWh of gas used.

Please Note: Customers who choose this tariff will be committed to stay on this tariff for a 12 month period.

1Supply Point Capacity

A charge is payable in order to move gas through the pipelines. This charge is essentially where Natural Gas Suppliers, such as Bord Gáis Energy, reserve space on the gas pipeline on behalf of their customers for the coming gas year. The amount of space reserved is called Supply Point Capacity (SPC). Each gas point has an individual, site specific SPC. This capacity for Non Daily Metered Customers is an estimation of peak day consumption measured in kWh. The estimation methodology is based on the FAR process and has been approved by the Commission for Energy Regulation. Bord Gáis Networks are responsible for estimating SPC for all customers. For a fuller explanation of SPC please visit www.bordgais.ie/networks.

If you have any queries email us at info@bordgais.ie or call us at 1850 632 632.

Tariff Calculator

To understand which is the most appropriate tariff for you please enter your estimated annual consumption for the coming year and view the annual cost of each of our tariff options below. This will help you in choosing the most appropriate tariff for your consumption. (You can calculate your annual consumption by looking back over your past 6 bills).

*Carbon Tax is not included on the calculations above.

Can you help me if I have special requirements?

Bord Gáis Energy has developed a confidential special services register for residential customers who would prefer to have some of our services adapted to suit their special needs. Perhaps you may wish to join and benefit from any of the services listed below.

Nominate a carer

If the Customer has a relative, carer or someone who would normally look after their bills and correspondence, then they might want their Bord Gáis Energy bill and any other correspondence to be sent to them. They just need to submit to Bord Gáis Energy their written consent accompanied by the name and address of their carer. This information is captured in the special services registration form that is included in the code of practice booklet.

Bord Gáis Energy will then send them any bill or correspondence on the Customers behalf or contact them if we need to get in touch with the Customer (to assign a Customer to an account follow the steps outlined in the vulnerable customers user guide.

Help with reading your bill if you are blind or partially sighted

We can help if the Customer is blind or partially sighted. If they have difficulty reading their bill they can let us know and we can offer their bill in one of the following formats:

  • Braille bill
Please note it may take a little longer to get their bill to them in this format.
  • Talking Bill
We make life easier by having a member of staff phone them with details of their latest bill. This gives them the opportunity to ask any questions that they may have. We will still send them their bill in the normal way.

Difficulty paying your bill

You should tell us straight away if you are having any difficulty in paying your bill. We will deal with each case individually and take their circumstances into account. For example, we may be able to agree a Payment Plan if they are having difficulty in paying their bill. We are committed to helping them keep their gas supply turned on and will only disconnect the supply if we have no other choice. Please refer to our code of practice entitled "Paying Your Bord Gáis Energy Bill" for more details on what to do if you are having difficulty paying your bill.

Bord Gáis Energy works with the Department of Social and Family Affairs (DSFA) in operating the Natural Gas Allowance and Household Budget Schemes. We will also engage with Community Welfare Officers, Money Advice & Budgeting Services (MABS), Society of Vincent de Paul or other recognised charities, who make representation on your behalf, for help in paying your bill if you give us permission.

NB - we will not disconnect their supply between 1st November and 31st March if they are on our Special Services Register as an elderly Customer and they:

  • Live alone or
  • Live with other people, all of whom are of 66 years or older or
  • Live with other people, all of whom are less than 16 years of age.

We must, however, ultimately receive payment from them for the gas that we supply so the Customer must let us know if they are elderly and are experiencing difficulty in paying their bills.

Special communication services if you are deaf or blind

  • If the Customer is deaf or hard of hearing and they have a Minicom they can get in touch with us using the following number: For all Customer Enquiries - 1850 630 630

I currently receive a gas allowance. Will I still receive this?

What is my GPRN and where do I find it?
