A BER certificate is valid for 10 years.
How do you rate your home?
If you are selling or renting your home, you are required by law to have a Building Energy Rating certificate. At Bord Gáis Energy we can arrange to have a fully qualified assessor to carry out a BER for you. Even if you are not planning to sell or rent your property, an assessment will measure its energy efficiency and identify potential energy saving solutions.
What is a BER Certificate?
A Building Energy Rating certificate is a simple way to show how energy efficient your home is. Similar to the ratings that come with electrical appliances, it is on a scale from A1 to G, A1 being the most efficient and G being the least efficient. Therefore the better your rating the more efficient your home is. A BER Certificate also indicates how much carbon dioxide is being emitted from your home. Following your assessment, the Bord Gáis Energy Home Team can provide solutions to help you reduce your carbon emissions.
Did you know?
According to EU legislation, before you can sell or rent a property you must have a Building Energy Rating carried out by a fully qualified registered SEAI assessor. Our specially trained assessors will complete a professional BER of your home and will issue you with a BER certificate and an advisory report outlining some useful suggestions on how to make your home more energy efficient. We will also provide you with expert advice on the grants available to you.
When should you get your home assessed?
Before you sell or rent a property, you are required by law to get a BER assessment. A BER must also be completed if you are making improvements to your home and have applied for a grant through the Home Energy Saving Scheme from the SEAI. This type of grant applies to:
You can also receive a grant of €50 from the SEAI towards the cost of the BER assessment. And if you get the improvement work carried out by Bord Gáis Energy we will discount the BER by a further €100.
You may choose to have a BER completed on your home to assess the energy efficiency and to check if improvements need to be made.
