€20 million saved as 200,000 make the Big Switch to cheaper electricity

Bord Gáis Energy can today confirm a major milestone with the 200,000th customer having made the Big Switch to Bord Gáis Energy, just seven months since entering Ireland’s residential electricity market.
Offering significant savings ranging from 10% to 14% off ESB unit rates for the first year, the Big Switch campaign has proved to be one of Ireland’s most successful marketing campaigns, far exceeding Bord Gáis Energy’s initial targets at the outset of the campaign.
“Every day over a thousand people continue to make the Big Switch” said David Bunworth, Managing Director, Bord Gáis Energy, “We were confident when we launched the campaign last February that there would be a positive response from consumers to our offer but the response to date is unprecedented. What is even more pleasing is that we have been able to bring the equivalent of over €20 million in annual savings to 200,000 Irish energy consumers from every county in Ireland at a time when it is needed most.”
Facts about the Big Switch
1. Over 200,000 customers have switched their electricity supplier to Bord Gáis Energy in the last seven months.
2. Customers who switch their electricity supplier can potentially save between 10% and 14% off ESB unit rates in their first year with Bord Gáis Energy. This equates to an average of over €100 per customer or €20 million in total annual savings.
3. There is no minimum contract. Customers who make the Big Switch can switch supplier at any time.
4. Unlike other suppliers Bord Gáis Energy guarantees discounts for at least three years.
5. Switching online takes less than five minutes.
6. Electricity from Bord Gáis Energy is available in every county in Ireland not just in traditional gas areas. Customers do not have to be a gas customer to switch their electricity.
7. According to the National Consumer Agency of Ireland over 69% of customers who switch service providers believe they receive better service from their new supplier.
8. Bord Gáis Energy is the first residential dual fuel supplier in Ireland with over 800,000 customers all over Ireland.
