Cork City Marathon
IRISH ATHLETICS legend Sonia O'Sullivan raced back to her home town to officially launch the Bord Gáis Energy Cork City Marathon. The event took place on bank holiday Monday, June 7th, 2010.
Congratulations to the 10,000 participants who braved the rain and wind to take part in the biggest Bord Gáis Energy Cork City Marathon yet. Athletes from all 32 counties in Ireland and from as far away as Australia, the US and New Zealand all made the June Bank Holiday race a day to remember.
Bord Gáis Energy Sports Sponsorship Manager Ger Cunningham said: "This has without doubt been the biggest and most succcessful Bord Gáis Energy Cork City Marathon yet and to see the course record broken shows the commitment of the athletes involved, from the very top to all the relay runners who have raised more than €3million for charity."
"That's what this marathon is all about, volunteers, money being raised for good causes and every athlete involved on the day will have a story to tell. It has been magnificent. Congratulations to the winners, Sergiu Ciobanu and Lucy Brennan and to the Metric Milers team. Sergiu's time of 2:25:54 was truly outstanding in the conditions."
