Bord Gáis Energy Cork City Marathon on 6 June 2011 - Sonia O'Sullivan's first Irish marathon in over ten years

Ireland's greatest track and field athlete and our Chef de Mission for the 2012 London Olympics Sonia O'Sullivan, swapped sunny Australia for wintery Cork this week to launch the 2011Bord Gáis Energy Cork City Marathon. This year's event sees two firsts - the introduction of a half marathon and confirmation that times run in the full marathon for 2011 will count as qualifier times for some of the most famous marathons in the world, including Boston, Berlin and New York.

Ireland's greatest athlete Sonia O'Sullivan gave Cork runners a unique opportunity yesterday to train with her for the upcoming Bord Gáis Energy Cork City Marathon. Over 50 runners of all levels and abilities were put through their paces at the session which took place at CIT. Sonia herself will be running the marathon for the first time this year as she aims to raise money for the Children's Leukaemia Association at the Mercy University Hospital.
