Moldovian Sergiu Ciobanu won The 2011 Bord Gáis Energy Cork City Marathon today in a record time of 2:25:34, beating the official record he set last year for the marathon by 20 seconds.

Ireland's greatest athlete Sonia O'Sullivan gave Cork runners a unique opportunity yesterday to train with her for the upcoming Bord Gáis Energy Cork City Marathon. Over 50 runners of all levels and abilities were put through their paces at the session which took place at CIT. Sonia herself will be running the marathon for the first time this year as she aims to raise money for the Children's Leukaemia Association at the Mercy University Hospital.

Irish Olympian, Sonia O’Sullivan has announced today that she will be running her first marathon in three years this year and her first Irish marathon in over ten years, when she lines out at the Bord Gáis Energy Cork City Marathon on 6 June 2011. Sonia will be competing to raise funds for the Children’s Leukaemia Association, which supports and assists families during the course of their child’s treatment at the Mercy Hospital, Cork.

Ireland's greatest track and field athlete and our Chef de Mission for the 2012 London Olympics Sonia O'Sullivan, swapped sunny Australia for wintery Cork this week to launch the 2011Bord Gáis Energy Cork City Marathon. This year's event sees two firsts - the introduction of a half marathon and confirmation that times run in the full marathon for 2011 will count as qualifier times for some of the most famous marathons in the world, including Boston, Berlin and New York.

Sports stars form a 5-a-side for the Bord Gáis Energy Cork City Marathon

GAA All-Stars teamed up with former Irish rugby hooker Frankie Sheahan to launch the Team Relay Event of the Bord Gáis Energy Cork City Marathon, taking place on bank holiday Monday, June 7th, 2010. The event hopes to attract a record 10,000 participants this year and raise €3million for over 150 different charities, a figure that will be mostly driven by relay teams registering to run for charity.
