Relay runner

How the relay works

There are five legs to the relay race for teams of two to five runners. Runners of all shapes and sizes are being accommodated for, whether they are looking for a distance to challenge them, or they simply want to participate.

The first runner from each team will start the race at St Patrick's Street and complete their leg, or legs, before handing over to a team-mate at fixed change-over points, the distance between each ranging from just over three and a half miles to just over six and a half miles.

Runners in a team of five will cover one leg each. In a team of two, for example, each runner will complete two or three consecutive legs before handing over to his team-mate, so if you spot a relay-runner at any of the other change-over points who looks like he has forgotten to hand over, don't worry as he's probably part of a two or three man team and has further to run than the members of larger teams.
