Ladies National Football League - Overview

Launch of 2011 Bord Gáis Energy Ladies Football Launch of 2011 Bord Gáis Energy Ladies Football

The third year of Bord Gáis Energy's sponsorship of the Ladies Gaelic Football Association has been and gone... but what a year!

Four in a row on Leeside, a quick bounce back for the Jackies, no sign of Biddy Early and history for the Lake County! Plenty of cracking stories during three months of the best of Ladies Football action.

Division 1 was keenly contested this year and on the last day of league action three teams were in danger of relegation but also had a chance of reaching the semi-finals.

In the end despite remaining unbeaten all through the round stages, Monaghan came unstuck in the semi-final to Laois, but Cork then put Laois to the sword in a classic final shown live on TG4. Four in a row of Division 1 titles now sets the Rebelettes up nicely for the Summer.

Division 2 saw Dublin overcome their fiercest rivals Meath to ensure a quick return to the top flight for 2012, while in Division 3 Clare got to grips with a Fermanagh team that had been unbeaten until then.

But perhaps the real story of 2011 unfolded in Ennis when Westmeath beat Roscommon to win a first ever National League title.

Ladies National Football League - Awards

The year also saw a return of the Manager of the Month awards in partnership with the Irish Daily Star and during a great night in Croke Park, we had the presentation of the Teams of the League Awards and the overall Manager of the League Award. Congratulations to all 60 players honoured on the night over the four divisions and to Cork manager Noel O'Connor for his overall award.
