Bord Gáis Energy GAA Hurling U-21 Championship - Overview

Clare U21 Hurling Team

2009 will go down as a classic year in the history of the Bord Gáis Energy GAA Hurling U-21 Championship.

Clare's maiden All-Ireland victory at U-21 level captured the attention of neutrals and die hard hurling fans alike and the gripping finale at Croke Park in September attracted one of the highest attendances in the history of the competition.

Under the keen eye of their manager John Minogue, the Banner overcame such hurling power houses as Limerick, Waterford, Galway and Kilkenny en route to a famous break through win.

On a famous day in September, Clare finally got their hands on the iconic Cross of Cashel trophy and forward Darach Honan was later rewarded for his outstanding season with the inaugural Bord Gáis Energy Breaking Through Player of the Year award.

2010 has a lot to live up to and no doubt the title defenders will put in some determined performances and inspire the same from the other pretenders and contenders.
