How will the reduction in VAT affect the government payment?

The government has announced a VAT reduction from 13.5% to 9% on all energy bills issued from 1 May 2022. All bills issued from 1 May will have the 9% VAT rate applied, regardless of when consumption took place.

In addition to reducing your overall bill amount, the reduction has also affected the VAT element of the government credit for any customer who receives their bill on or after 1 May.

If your bill was issued on or after 1 May, a credit of €192.08 (€176.22 + 9% VAT) will be applied to your account. This is directly in line with government legislation and guidance. For more information, see gov.ie

We've applied the government credit to all residential electricity accounts. Customers with an online account will be able to see the payment in the 'Bills and Transactions' tab on their account dashboard. If you don’t have an online account, you can register here. Customers can also see the payment on their next bill after the credit has been applied.
