Bord Gáis Energy Launches Capture the Power Competition for Budding Student Photographers.

Gráinne Seoige and a troupe of energetic gymnasts were in St. Stephen's Green, today, to launch the second year of the highly successful Bord Gáis Energy Capture the Power photography competition. Bord Gáis Energy, as one of Ireland's leading energy providers, is inviting students of all ages across Irish primary and secondary schools to capture the energy in the world around them.

This year the competition will be extended and run for nine weeks, from 27th January - 26th March. There are lots of fantastic prizes to be won in each of the four age categories (primary 5-9, 10-13 and secondary 12-15, 16-19) with an overall winner selected to win the star prize. Last year Bord Gáis Energy received 4,677 entries from students nationwide with 587 schools participating in the competition.

Launching the competition, Nicky Doran, Head of Marketing at Bord Gáis Energy said:"Energy is the word for our future generations and Bord Gáis Energy, as one of Ireland's leading energy providers, is delighted to be supporting this unique competition which encourages young students to use the passion they have for the environment and energy and bring it to life with photography."

The overall prize winner will receive a fantastic Canon Digital SLR Camera, a Nintendo Wii console and Wii Fit and their photograph will be published on the front cover of 'At Home' and be seen by over 1 million Bord Gáis Energy customers. Other prizes available for all ages in the competition include a Canon Digital Camera, an Apple Ipod Touch, a Wii fit and a Wii console.

For digital entries the maximum file size is 5MB and the suggested file types include JPEG, TIFF and PDF.

There are four age categories:
  • Primary School
  • Secondary Schools
  • 5-9 year old
  • 12-15 year old
  • 10-13 year old
  • 16-19 year old
The following must be included with every entry:
  • Your name
  • Your school's name and contact number
  • Your teacher and principal's name
  • Your age (at Jan 1st 2010)
  • A short written caption of no more than 50 words explaining the background to your photo
