Dublin Looking to Make Up For Last Year's Disappointment

12.07.10

Captains Meet ahead of Bord Gáis Energy Leinster GAA Hurling U-21 Final.

The captains of both Dublin and Wexford were in attendance today in Dublin ahead of their Bord Gáis Energy Leinster GAA Hurling U-21 Final clash on Wednesday evening. Finn McGarry of Dublin and Eoin Doyle of Wexford met at the iconic Samuel Beckett Bridge to publicise the eagerly anticipated clash. This is Dublin's eighth final since 2001 and they will be keen to regain a title they last won in 2007 when they beat Offaly. After defeat in last year's final to Kilkenny they took their revenge against the Cats in the semi final and will be keen for more success at a level where they have been more than just competitive.

Wexford have also enjoyed success in the past decade, winning Leinster titles in 2001 and 2002, beating Dublin on both occasions. Both teams include senior hurlers that have featured in this year's senior campaign, including Bord Gáis Energy ambassador Liam Rushe. Uachtarán Chumann Lúthchleas Gael Criostóir Ó Cuana revealed that he's looking forward to another exciting campaign as provincial competitions reach a crescendo.

He said, "We have been treated to some excellent hurling already but the arrival of the latter stages of the competitions will really focus minds across the provinces. "Bord Gáis Energy have worked hard to promote this competition with new and innovative ideas and I look forward to the seeing this championship unfold in the coming weeks and months with some of the game's best emerging talent shining. "Bord Gáis Energy also used the occasion to highlight their new outdoor advertising campaign entitled Show Your True Colours, which was unveiled this week and will be used in the build up to the provincial finals and the All-Ireland series.

"Bord Gáis Energy is delighted to be associated once again with Under 21 Hurling and feel that the public have really engaged with us this year through our advertising campaign, our relaunched breakingthrough.ie site and of course through our Facebook and Twitter pages," said Ger Cunningham, Sports Sponsorship Manager at Bord Gáis Energy. "We feel that our fresh approach to sponsoring this competition is reflective of our desire to promote the Bord Gáis Energy GAA Hurling U-21 Championship to the hilt.

"This is also borne out in our approach to the Leinster Final on Wednesday which will be a hugely exciting evening of action, both on and off the pitch. Before the game we will ensure a carnival atmosphere for all those that attend with the FM104 Roadhog on site to lend a hand. We will also run the Crossbar Challenge at half time, hosted once again this year by Marty Morrissey."

Wednesday night also sees both Bord Gáis Energy GAA Hurling U-21 Munster Semi-Finals taking place between Limerick and Clare at the Gaelic Grounds and Tipperary and Cork at Thurles, throw in at both venues is at 7.30pm. At Parnell Park, the throw in for the Bord Gáis Energy GAA Hurling U-21 Leinster Final is also at 7.30pm and the match will be broadcast live on TG4.
