Closing date for entries Thursday, 11th April 2013

Today sees the launch of the 2013 Bord Gáis Energy Social Media Awards which will take place on Thursday, 30th May at the Clyde Court Hotel in Dublin.

The Awards which recognise Irish companies for their innovative and business-focused use of social media are open to all businesses across the country. There are 20 award categories available for entry and this year sees the introduction of three new categories including: Integrated Mobile Campaign, Inbound Marketing/Content Marketing Campaign, Social Media Only Campaign.

Over 400 submissions were received last year and organisers are calling on businesses to submit entries before the closing date on Thursday, 11 April 2013 at www.socialmediawards.com

Damien Mulley, founder of the Irish Social Media Awards said, “The idea of the awards is to give everyone at different levels and with different budgets an equal chance of having their work highlighted and evaluated.”

"This year we feel it is important to recognise those companies using social media as their only marketing tool, hence we created the Social Media Only Campaign. We expect this category to be competitive and look forward to seeing the entries.”

The Grand Prix award for the company who demonstrated the best overall use of social media went to Vodafone Ireland, who also picked up two awards earlier in the night for the best use of video as part of their social media strategy and customer care using social media.

Commenting on the sponsorship, Digital and Social Media Manager at Bord Gáis Energy Eoin O'Suilleabhain said, “Irish companies have successfully integrated social media into their business, marketing and customer relationship strategies and with over 2.2 million Facebook users and over 830,000* Twitter users in Ireland, it is a channel that must be embraced.”

“We want to recognise the talent and outstanding results being achieved by businesses nationwide. Every year we see new and innovative techniques being used through social media and I am sure this year will be no exception.”

Last year’s winners included Vodafone Ireland, National Lottery and Lidl Ireland, Carzone.ie and Spin 103.8 and Discover Ireland.
