O2 Ireland Overall Winner at the 2013 Bord Gáis Energy Social Media Awards

Hailo, The Defence Forces, Republic of Telly and National Lottery among the category winners

Social media glory was awarded to nineteen Irish companies at the 2013 Bord Gáis Energy Social Media Awards. The awards, which took place last night (Thursday 30th May) in the Clyde Court Hotel in Dublin, honoured businesses who have demonstrated innovation in their use of social media in business over the past year.

The Grand Prix award for the company who demonstrated the best overall use of social media went to O2 Ireland, who picked up trophies earlier in the night for Best Integrated Social Media Campaign for the campaign Bring on the Green and Best Integrated Facebook Campaign.

Other winners on the night included National Lottery, who was recognised for its use of Social Media Only, whilst Focus Ireland took top honours in the hugely competitive Facebook Page for a Non-Profit Organisation category.

Innovative taxi app, Hailo, took the award for Best Mobile Application, whilst travel advice company AA Roadwatch won the category for Best Business Blog.

Republic of Telly took home the award for Social Media Effectiveness and the Defence Forces were awarded Best Use of Social Media by a State Body for the second time in three years.

Commenting on the winners Damien Mulley, founder of the Irish Social Media Awards: This year has been a landmark year for the Social Media Awards, while only three years old, the quality of work submitted and the submissions are something we and the companies themselves should be proud of. We've had more entries this year than the previous two years and we needed over 100 judges to go through all the material and pick the best work. There were some world-class entries this year and we look forward to what next year will bring.

In the three years we have been supporting these awards we have seen a significant improvement in the standard and quality of entries and approach many businesses are taking to social media.Wed like to congratulate all the winners this evening.

This year, organisers welcomed over 400 guests and attracted additional, high profile category sponsors including YouTube, HubSpot and Sky, which is a testament to the success and growth of these awards in the business calendar.
