Bord Gáis Energy Social Media Awards 2014 Call for Entries

New focus on SME’s, mobile and new formats as more new categories added to Awards.
Closing date for entries for #Sockies - Friday 18th April 2014

The 2014 Bord Gáis Energy Social Media Awards (#Sockies) will take place on Thursday 5th June at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre in Dublin. The move to the bigger venue represents a milestone for the Awards which have gone from strength to strength since they first launched in 2011, with over 450 people attending last year’s Awards event.

The organisers are hoping to encourage more SME’s to seek recognition for their Social Media campaigns with the inclusion of two categories dedicated exclusively to SME’s in the 2014 Awards. Furthermore, the addition of categories for Best Mobile Campaign Using Social Media and Best Experimental Format (Vine, Instagram, Snapchat) highlights the extent to which social media campaigns by Irish companies have successfully evolved to embrace mobile technology and relatively new platforms and tools as part of their efforts to engage with existing and potential customers and build better business.

The Bord Gáis Energy Social Media Awards recognise Irish companies for their innovative and business-focused use of social media and are open to all businesses across the country. There are 22 award categories available for entry in this year’s Awards. Two additional awards, for Best Agency and a Grand Prix award for best campaign, will also be presented at the Awards Event.

Damien Mulley, founder of the Awards said, “As more and more Irish businesses and organisations successfully use social media to engage with their customers and grow their businesses, it is important that we continue to recognise the great work being done and the results being achieved at many different levels throughout Ireland. The response to the Awards has been really positive and we hope that with the focus on SME’s and the inclusion of some new categories that this year’s event will be our biggest and most successful yet.”

Commenting on the sponsorship, Digital and Social Media Manager at Bord Gáis Energy, Eoin O'Suilleabhain said, “These Awards allow us to celebrate the great achievements of Irish businesses and organisations who are using social media in new and innovative ways to create better communications with their customers and grow their businesses.

“It is important that we look to evolve the categories every year to reflect changing trends and to shine a light on innovation in social media. This year we are really keen to encourage more SME’s to allow us to recognise their social media campaigns. It is also important that we specifically celebrate mobile campaigns using social media and campaigns that have successfully involved Vine, Snapchat and Instagram as these have become an integral part of the social media toolkit now available to businesses.“

Over 400 submissions were received last year and winners included O2 Ireland, AA Roadwatch, Republic Of Telly, Hailo, Spin 1038 and Spin SouthWest, The Defence Forces and Irish Rail.

The Bord Gáis Energy Social Media Awards are also affectionately known as ‘The Sockies’ (#Sockies) and the organisers are calling on businesses and organisations to submit their entries before 5pm on Friday 18th April 2014 at A list of nominations will be announced towards the end of April, while a long list will be revealed in early May, followed by a shortlist in mid-May.
