Understanding your Smart Electricity Pay As You Go (SPAYG) statement

Below is a guide to help you understand the different parts of your smart electricity Pay As You Go statement.
Each numbered section is highlighted in the statement example.*

Your plan, meter details and statement period

  1. Account details
    Here you’ll find your account number, your plan name, and (if applicable) your contract end date.
    If you’re not currently in contract, a contract end date will not be shown.

  2. Meter information
    This section shows your meter number, statement period (the period your statement covers), and your MPRN (Meter Point Reference Number) an 11-digit code used to identify your electricity connection.
    You’ll also see your DG, MCC, and Profile codes:
    DG (Distribution Group): Helps us understand your expected energy consumption.
    MCC (Meter Configuration Code): Tells us the type of meter you have.
    Profile: Indicates your typical usage pattern and is used to forecast consumption.

  1. Your total usage and payments
    This section shows your total electricity usage and charges and your total top-ups for the period.
    These figures reflect your total charges and payments since your last statement was issued.

Your statement breakdown

  1. Electricity usage and charges
    This section shows your usage split into Day, Night, and Peak time bands, along with:
    The quantity (kWh) used for each band
    The unit rate (c/kWh)
    The amount (€) charged for each band
    A subtotal is shown before other charges are added.

  1. Charges and VAT
    This section lists your additional charges, including:
    Standing charge: A fixed cost for providing your energy supply.
    PSO Levy: A government levy supporting renewable energy generation in Ireland.
    It also shows the total excluding VAT, the VAT rate applied, and the total amount including VAT.

  1. Top-ups
    Here you’ll see the total top-ups made during the statement period.

  2. Debt information
    This section shows:
    The amount repaid during this statement period (the portion of your top-ups that went toward your outstanding debt).
    Your outstanding debt balance.
    Each time you top up, a set percentage (for example, 10%) of the top-up amount goes toward repaying your debt.
    Some figures may be rounded up or down.

Your smart meter consumption

  1. Your smart meter reads
    This section shows your current usage across the Day, Night, and Peak time bands.
    You’ll also see the time periods each band covers:
    Day: 8am–5pm / 7pm–11pm
    Night: 11pm–8am
    Peak: 5pm–7pm

    The letter next to “Current usage” indicates the type of meter reading:
    A – Actual reading taken from your smart meter
    C – Customer reading you’ve provided
    E – Estimated reading from ESB Networks

Please note:

  • Your SPAYG statement is issued quarterly.
  • If you submit your own reads, they must be accepted by ESB Networks to appear on your next statement.
