Bord Gáis Energy announces price increase - September 2021

Bord Gáis Energy to increase household energy prices but guarantees to hold prices until Spring 2022

Due to the all-time high cost of energy, Bord Gáis Energy is today announcing an increase in electricity and gas prices for residential customers. However, the company has also uniquely guaranteed that its customers will not face any further price increases before Spring 2022.

The gas price change, only the second increase in gas prices by the company in two years, will increase a typical gas bill by €8.16 per month.  The change in electricity prices will mean an increase of €10.26 per month on the typical electricity bill.  The changes will take effect from 24 October 2021 and the company has guaranteed to hold these prices until Spring 2022 despite ongoing market volatility.

Global energy costs, and particularly global gas costs have hit all-time highs due to a combination of restricted supply levels, higher carbon prices, and market volatility. While the current price highs and volatility are expected to remain for some time, Bord Gáis Energy has confirmed it will pass on any savings and reductions to customers wherever and whenever it can.  The company has repeatedly demonstrated this commitment in 2020 and 2019 when it reduced gas prices.

Dave Kirwan, Managing Director, Bord Gáis Energy said, “We are experiencing an extremely uncertain energy market right now and we know our customers are concerned about that. We regret that we have to pass through a price increase at this time, but we have taken steps to protect our customers against further movement during the colder winter months ahead. Today we confirmed a unique guarantee to hold these prices until Spring 2022.”
