How does the fair usage policy work on Free Time Plans?
If you use more electricity than your free allowance, you'll be charged at the normal day time rate.
If you're on a Free Time plan, there's a limit to how much electricity you can use during the free hours. This limit is called a usage cap, and it's set at 1,200 kWh per year, which works out to about 100 kWh per month or 3.29 kWh per day.
Your allowance is calculated based on the number of days in your billing period. To figure out how many free units you get, multiply the number of days in your bill by 3.29 kWh.
If you use more electricity than your allowance during the free time hours, the extra units will be charged at your regular day rate. These extra units will show up in the “day” section of your bill.
Example
Plan: Free Time Saturday
Billing period: 1 March to 30 March = 30 days
Days in billing period: 30 x pro-rated usage cap 3.29 kWh = 98.7 kWh
So, if you use more than 98.7 kWh during the free hours, you’ll be charged for the extra usage at the day rate.
