ESBN smart data issue update

An ESB Networks issue has resulted in inflated smart usage data being provided to suppliers for some customer accounts. 

An ESB Networks (ESBN) issue linked to a system upgrade has resulted in inflated smart usage data being provided to suppliers for some customer accounts. ESBN has clarified this is a system issue and is not related to the smart meter itself.

Smart plan customers

Smart graphs and usage data are currently unavailable on customer’s accounts while this is being resolved. Once we receive corrected usage data from ESBN, your online account will be corrected and updated.

Delayed bills

Some customers may receive delayed bills due to this issue. We won’t issue any bills for the affected period until we receive and verify the corrected reads. This means:

  • Your bill may arrive later than usual
  • It may cover a longer period than normal, which means it may be slightly higher
  • We’ll contact you if your bill is delayed

If you'd prefer to spread costs, you can make a payment to your account before your bill is issued, which will go towards your bill.

Once corrected reads are confirmed, billing will return to its normal schedule next month.

Online account ‘next bill between’ date

Some customers are seeing May as their next bill date on their online account, even though a March bill hasn’t issued.

There’s no need to worry. We’ll issue your March bill as soon as we receive the corrected reads.

Microgen customers

Microgen payments also rely on smart meter data. Until ESB Networks corrects the reads, microgen information won’t appear on your online account.

Your microgen payment will be backdated to ensure we use the correct data on your bill.

Smart Pay As You Go customers

As a result of this issue, Smart Pay As You Go (SPAYG) balances won’t show in your online account for now. Please continue to top up as normal. We’ll contact you once your balance has been updated and advise you of next steps.
