Statement from Bord Gáis Energy regarding CCPC

Issued 7 October 2025.  Bord Gáis Energy is aware that the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has issued an urgent safety alert regarding 114,000 circulating pumps installed in heating systems in Ireland which could present a serious risk of electrocution. According to the advice from the CCPC, consumers can continue to use their heating systems as normal, but they must take care not to handle affected pumps as there is a serious risk of electrocution. This includes disconnecting, adjusting, or attempting any maintenance on the pump.

Bord Gáis Energy would like to reassure customers that we have not used these pumps in our own installations.  Some of our customers may have had heat recovery/heat pump systems installed separately and we advise that they visit the CCPC website and follow the advice they have outlined.  Bord Gáis Energy engineers have been alerted to this issue and, during the course of a visit to a customer’s home, where they identify that a Tucson circulating pump has been installed, they will inform the homeowner of the risk and advise them to contact Tucson directly.

Swyft Energy, a solar and green energy company which was acquired by Bord Gáis Energy earlier this year, installed approximately 300 Tucson circulating pumps. Swyft are currently in the process of contacting impacted customers directly, with advice on the steps to take to contact the manufacturer to have the issued resolved.

The CCPC advises that customers should:

·         Look for the Tucson brand

·        If your pump is from Tucson, find the serial number on the front of the pump

·        Check the number on Tucson Pumps online serial number checker, or by calling 01 842 6255
