Price Plans

What price plans are available to me?

Bord Gáis Energy is committed to improving customer service and value for money. Our price plans are designed to be customer focused, transparent and cost reflective.

Residential customers with an annual consumption of less than 73,000 kWh per annum have a choice of the following:

Standard Price Plan

The Standard price plan consists of 2 elements. There is a standing charge and a single unit rate per kWh of gas used.

Detailed information on our price plans and unit rates can be found in our dedicated price plans page.

Standard Pay As You Go Price Plan

Customers who use a Pay As You Go Meter to help budget for future gas usage are automatically put on the standard price plan. See above for reference. Detailed information on our price plans and unit rates can be found in our dedicated tariffs page.

Fixed Price Plan

The fixed price plan allows you to fix the price you pay for your energy over a 12 or 24 month period protecting you from price changes for the duration of your contract.

All unit rates, standing charges and any change in other 3rd party costs are covered. Only Government taxes are not covered because we can’t fix these (e.g. VAT, PSO and Carbon Tax).

Residential customers with an annual consumption of more than 73,000 kWh per annum will be assigned to a Large Residential Price Plan.

More information can be found in our Fixed Price Plan section.

Residential customers with an annual consumption of more than 73,000 kWh per annum will be assigned to the Large Residential User Tariff.

Large Residential User Variable Price Plan

The Large Residential User Tariff will consist of 3 elements:

  • Gas Commodity Charge
This charge is for gas consumed and is charged per kWh.
  • Capacity Charge
This is to cover the transport capacity cost. This will be charged per Supply Point Capacity* kWh.
  • Standing Charge
This is to cover the cost of supply.

Please Note: Residential customers who consume in excess of 73,000 kWh of gas per annum cannot choose to move to another price plan. The charges outlined above will appear on each bill.

*Supply Point Capacity

A charge is payable in order to move gas through the pipelines. This charge is essentially where Natural Gas Suppliers, such as Bord Gáis Energy, reserve space on the gas pipeline on behalf of their customers for the coming gas year. The amount of space reserved is called Supply Point Capacity (SPC). Each gas point has an individual, site specific SPC. This capacity for Non Daily Metered Customers is an estimation of peak day consumption measured in kWh. The estimation methodology is based on the FAR process and has been approved by the Commission for Energy Regulation. Gas Networks Ireland are responsible for estimating SPC for all customers. For a fuller explanation of SPC please visit www.bordgaisnetworks.ie.
