Why has a historic bill appeared on my online account?
Don’t worry—this is not a new charge as you’ve already been billed. We’re simply bringing historical bills in line with updated usage from ESB Networks.

Smart meters provide actual half-hourly usage reads to ESB Networks (ESBN) and Bord Gáis Energy for billing purposes. If actual half-hourly meter readings aren't available when we issue your bill ESBN provides estimated readings to cover the missing time periods. If we receive actual readings after your bill has been issued, we will use them to adjust your bill if needed.
You'll see these as "corrections" on your bill. In rare cases, actual reads never become available which results in a mismatch between the total of the half-hourly readings and the overall meter reading for the same period. To fix this, ESB Networks is making a change to ensure both readings match, even if some half-hourly readings are estimates.
For more information on how they're doing this, see ESB Networks' information page.
How does this impact me?
ESB Networks is reviewing usage data from 1 January 2023 to October 2025. If they find any mismatches between estimated and actual readings, they'll adjust the estimated readings to make sure your usage is accurate and send this to us. This may result in a small correction to your bill for the historical period.
If you're affected, we'll contact you by email to let you know.

Any additional charges for increased usage will be waived on your next bill. However, if the updated data shows lower usage, we’ll apply this as a credit to your next bill.
