Delivering €1 Billion-Plus Investment in Ireland’s Energy Infrastructure
Bord Gáis Energy reports operating profit of €72.5 million for 2025
Thursday 19 February 2026: Bord Gáis Energy, part of Centrica plc, today reported a profit of €72.5 million for the full year 2025 across its portfolio of activity including long term capital investments, energy trading and its retail business. Bord Gáis Energy also updated on its €1BN+ investment in energy infrastructure, supporting Ireland’s transition to a more secure, resilient and decarbonised energy system.
Bord Gáis Energy has a total 1GW* of energy generation in operation and development. Two 100 MW flexible gas peaking plants in Athlone and Dublin will commission in the coming months, with a third 334 MW Open Cycle Gas Turbine project in Galway in planning, and a synchronous condenser is being developed at Bord Gáis Energy’s Whitegate Energy Park. These are significant investments which will enhance national security of supply while facilitating the integration of higher volumes of renewables onto the grid.
In 2025, Bord Gáis Energy materially expanded its suite of net-zero-aligned services and commercial offerings. The acquisition of Swyft Energy in January broadened the company’s capability to deliver solar PV solutions across residential, commercial and agricultural segments. In addition, a series of long-term power purchase agreements were secured with leading renewable developers, collectively adding more than 629 MW of contracted renewable capacity. Once operational under the Renewable Electricity Support Scheme (RESS), these agreements position Bord Gáis Energy among Ireland’s largest off-takers of solar power.
Bord Gáis Energy delivered good customer growth in a highly competitive market, demonstrating a business with a strong trajectory towards growth and profitability. Customer focus remains core, with continued improvements in service, retention and support evidenced by a Net Promoter Score (NPS) of 39. A new brand position ‘Know Your Power’ launched in December reflecting the company’s heritage and its transformation to an innovative energy ally for customers and the broader market.
In 2025, Bord Gáis Energy marked ten years of partnership with Focus Ireland. Over the decade, this collaboration has supported thousands of families at risk of homelessness and generated more than €7.5 million in funding through corporate and employee-led initiatives.
Established in 2022, the Energy Support Fund, delivered in partnership with the Money Advice and Budgeting Service (MABS) and Focus Ireland, reflects Bord Gáis Energy’s focus on providing practical support to customers experiencing financial difficulty and has assisted more than 8,000 customers to date.
Commenting on the results, Dave Kirwan, Chairman of Bord Gáis Energy and Managing Director of Centrica Power said: "Our 2025 results reflect disciplined operational performance alongside accelerated delivery of our infrastructure programme and net-zero growth strategy. Through our investment in energy infrastructure, we are enhancing system reliability and enabling renewable integration at scale. The evolution of our brand is timely as we mark 50 years in business in 2026. We remain focused on delivering value for our customers, supporting Ireland’s energy transition and contributing to a secure and sustainable energy future."
