Bord Gáis Energy is looking to find Ireland’s next top GAA pundit in a hilarious new series

The show will run online, seeking to find Ireland’s most Hurling To The Core pundits

Bord Gáis Energy today launched The Gift of the GAAB – the search for Ireland’s most Hurling To The Core pundit from the army of fans who follow their counties’ fortunes through thick and thin.

After nearly two years of being confined to watching their beloved teams on television, they will be back out in force this season as they follow the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship action at grounds around the country.

For too long, these hurling mad experts have been forced to sit idly by, under-appreciated by their friends and unrecognised by the public watching countless reality shows emerge to cover almost every other talent - singing, dancing, cooking, painting, pottery and all the rest.

That changes with the launch of Bord Gáis Energy’s new reality show, The Gift of The GAAB, which will find Ireland’s next top pundit from the ranks of hurling fans.

Bord Gáis Energy ambassador Gearóid Hegarty of All-Ireland champions Limerick got into the spirit at the series launch today, talking to a The Gift of the GAAB hopeful in a mock post-match interview at Croke Park.

This is a first-of-its-kind talent show that will search Ireland to find the best couch commentators and give them a platform to showcase their punditry talents. Episode by episode they'll compete in challenges set by well-known hurling personalities and hurling legends with the hope of winning a cash prize and to see their face on the big screen.

People of all ages, and from all parts of the country, are encouraged to take part. If you would like to find out more or you know someone who is hurling mad and has The Gift of the GAAB, contact bge@giftofthegaab.ie

The Gift of the GAAB follows on from Bord Gáis Energy’s hugely successful GAAGAABox, which ran when fans weren’t able to attend games in person. This fly-on-the-wall show racked up more than 9 million views online over its two-season run.

Director of Energy, Marketing & Data, Colin Bebbington, said: “At Bord Gáis Energy, we know how important hurling is in the everyday lives of our customers and in the communities in which they live. The Gift of the GAAB is sure to raise plenty of laughs during the season and will capture the true spirit of hurling fans across the country, as they show their passion and expertise for the game they love.

“We’re extremely proud of our long association with the GAA, a partnership that stretches back well over a decade now. I’d like to thank our partners in the GAA for their continued support and wish our ambassador Gearóid all the best for the coming season as Limerick defend their All-Ireland crown.”

Uachtarán Chumann Lúthchleas Gael, Larry McCarthy added: “Bord Gáis Energy have been tremendous sponsors of the GAA Hurling Senior All-Ireland Championships through the tagline ‘Hurling To The Core’.  Their innovative and exciting approach is set to continue in 2022 and I have no doubt hurling supporters all around the country will be looking forward to this new ‘Gift of the GAAB’ series being rolled out.  We are very grateful to Bord Gáis Energy for their continued support and the strong promotion they bring to hurling.”

2022 marks the sixth year of Bord Gáis Energy’s sponsorship of the GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship. Bord Gáis Energy is also the sponsor of the Bord Gáis Energy GAA Legends Tour Series of Croke Park, which will return as in-person events after two years online.
