How do I disconnect my energy supply or lock my meter?

You'll need to contact us to disconnect your supply and lock your meter.

If you’re renovating, leaving your property vacant for a long time, or getting a heat pump installed and no longer need gas, you may need to disconnect your supply and lock the meter. Contact us to request this. 

Important: If you request your meter to be locked, you will no longer be supplied with electricity or gas, depending on the meter type. 

You’ll need: 

  1. Your Bord Gáis Energy account number. 
  2. Your gas GPRN and/or electricity MPRN. Learn how to find GPRN/MPRN here 
  3. Forwarding address for your final bill. 

Once we receive your request, we’ll send it to ESB Networks (electricity disconnections) or Gas Networks Ireland (gas disconnections).
