My gas bill explained

Please see the information below which will explain your gas bill. 

Understanding your gas bill:

Below is a guide to help you understand the different parts of your residential gas bill.
Each numbered section is highlighted in the bill example*.

 

Your plan, meter details and current balance

  1. Account details
    Here you’ll find your account number, your plan name, and (if applicable) your contract end date.
    If you’re not currently in contract, a contract end date will not be shown.

  1. Meter information
    This section shows your meter number, your GPRN (Gas Point Reference Number), and your AC Band.
    You'll need your GPRN to submit a meter reading.

  1. Bill payment information
    This area shows your current balance and the date your bill is due.
    If your account is in credit, the amount will display CR next to it.

Your bill breakdown

  1. Your gas usage and charges
    This section shows:
    The standing charge for the number of days in your billing period
    The unit rate (kWh) for the gas you’ve used
    The carbon tax applied to your consumption

  1. Discounts, VAT and previous payments
    Here you’ll find:
    Any discounts applied (for example, Gas Affinity Discount)
    VAT charged on your total
    Previous bill amounts and payments received before calculating your new total

  1. Total
    This shows your total amount due, including all charges, adjustments and discounts.

Meter reads and consumption

  1. Your gas meter reads
    This section shows the meter readings used to calculate your bill.

    It includes:
    The last bill and current bill readings
    Units used
    Conversion factor
    Gas used (kWh)

Readings may be:
A – actual reading taken by Gas Networks Ireland
C – customer reading you’ve provided
E – estimated reading from Gas Networks Ireland

Submitting regular meter reads helps make your bill more accurate.

  • If you're on Level Pay, upcoming payments and review details may also appear on your bill.
  • If you submit your own reads, they must be accepted by Gas Networks Ireland (GNI) to appear on your next bill.
